Hi, my name's Adi!

I'm a master's student in Computer Science at the University of Iowa and a researcher in the UIowa Biocomputing Lab advised by Dr. Rahul Singh. I am focused on using AI and large language models as well as explainable AI for social good by surfacing meaningful clinical insights. Right now, I’m working on studying an underdiagnosed vocal disorder by modeling Reddit communities using word2vec and LLMs.

I graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.S. in Mathematics, and a certificate in Artificial Intelligence Modeling & Simulation (AIMS). Previously, I have built production software at Siemens Digital Industries; developed a Unity environment for continuous monitoring to study lifeguard behavior at the Attention & Perception Lab under Dr. Cathleen Moore and Michael Paavola, MSc; and worked on vehicle navigation and computer vision software to create an educational platform for robotics and deep learning at the Driving Safety Research Institute under Dr. Chris Schwarz.

NLP Researcher Assistant

UIowa Biocomputing Lab

January 2025 – Present

  • Built text pipelines (Word2Vec + LLMs) to study language of an underdiagnosed vocal disorder on Reddit.
  • Surfaced clinically meaningful signals and shared results via explainable, clinician friendly visuals.

NSF Researcher

Singh Lab

January 2024 – August 2024

  • Processed 80M Reddit posts on opioid use/recovery with MongoDB (aggregation pipelines, indexed queries) and Python ETL; applied topic modeling (BERTopic/LDA) to surface themes and trends.
  • Turned surfaced themes/terms into clinician facing visualizations and interpretable summaries using Plotly.

Research Assistant

Attention & Perception Lab

October 2024 – Present

  • Built a Unity continuous monitoring system to study lifeguard behavior in VR in a simulated pool scenario (scene instrumentation, event logging, time sync).
  • Developed the training environment and data pipeline scripting, sensor/telemetry integration, and export for downstream analysis.

Software Development Intern

Motion Methods & Solver Teams

May 2023 – January 2024

  • Delivered production tooling used across teams; wrote maintainable code with CI and clear interfaces.
  • Gathered requirements across stakeholders and shipped features that reduced manual workflow steps.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Driving Safety Research Institute (formerly NADS)

October 2022 – May 2023

    • Optimized image capture and on device processing on Raspberry Pi (camera tuning, multithreading pipelines) to cut end to end latency.
    • Applied computer vision and deep learning methods (CNNs) for navigation and modeling vehicle dynamics (lane/marker detection, pose estimation, control signals).
